GREEN HOUSE GAS EMISSIONS
One of the most challenging issues confronting Anaheim Public Utilities is the ability to effectively manage its resource portfolio to minimize or reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions from its fossil-fueled generators. Anaheim will have to find economic solutions to reduce emissions starting in the year 2012 in order to demonstrate a reduction of 25% or more of those emissions by 2020.
A majority of the GHG emissions come from coal resources Anaheim Public Utilities has contractual or ownership participation with; its involvement in those resources may run well past 2020. In addition, Anaheim Public Utilities has ownership in several gas-fired generation resources in the L.A. Basin. It will be seeking either technologies that can help reduce GHG emissions from those facilities or ideas regarding offsets from other sources that can be applied towards its overall reduction strategy.
